Life Chain Sunday is the FIRST Sunday of October every year!

What Is LIFE CHAIN?

Annually, on the first Sunday in October, LIFE CHAIN invites the churches in each city and town across North America to stand on a designated local sidewalk and pray for 90 minutes, while holding one of the following approved pro-life sign messages:

  • ABORTION KILLS CHILDREN
  • JESUS FORGIVES AND HEALS
  • ADOPTION: THE LOVING OPTION
  • LORD, FORGIVE US AND OUR NATION
  • ABORTION HURTS WOMEN
  • PRAY TO END ABORTION
  • LIFE—THE FIRST INALIENABLE RIGHT

On the first Sunday of October in 1600 cities across the United States and Canada, thousands of pro-life people will gather beside main streets.

They will pray silently and hold professionally-printed signs provided at the site.

They will peacefully stand in honor of the 60 million lives who have been lost to abortion.

Every year young women report deciding not to have an abortion after reading the signs and seeing the people praying.

"Our mom told us that you are the reason we are here," a seven-year-old girl told a Life Chain coordinator last year in Iowa. "She decided not to have an abortion after she talked to you here before I was born - so my brother and I are here today because you talked her out of having an abortion."

Students understand that a third of their generation has disappeared and convince their friends not to kill their baby.

People become aware of the need to pray for others in crisis situations and step into volunteer pro-life positions. "I hold Life Chains close to my heart. It was a Life Chain event that changed me from pro-abortion to pro-life when I wasn't a Christian," wrote the director of publicity for Rock for Life who takes teens across the U.S. in vans to witness for life at Christian concerts and other events.

Additional Information: The easy-to-hold 18" x 22" Life Chain signs are backprinted to feature Prayer Topics, Songs of Meditation, the Life Chain Code of Conduct, and a compelling statement on The Purpose of LIFE CHAIN. In addition to the prayer topics listed, local pastors are encouraged to add other prayer topics and to instruct their people in how to pray and meditate for a full hour.  During the Life Chain hour, idle chatter, frivolity, and both verbal and physical responses to motorists are strongly discouraged. LIFE CHAIN is a time for prayerful self-analysis, repentance, and serious commitment to helping end abortion in our nation.

Accordingly, LIFE CHAIN is not chiefly a demonstration, and its witness is not intended for the viewing public only. Instead, its first goal is to minister to its own participants—to those who call Christ their Lord and hold pro-life messages that declare abortion a grave evil that defames the name and holiness of God (Leviticus 18:21). Indeed the Church that Christ founded has drifted into cold indifference toward the sacredness of human life, and the result has been the mindless surgical killing and mutilation of over 45 million preborn Americans, plus untold millions who have fallen victim to abortive chemicals and medical neglect.

It is purposeful to note that LIFE CHAIN is church oriented and pastor focused and that the key to a successful Chain is for local pastors to educate their congregations about abortion and then lead them to the sidewalk where their Chain is to be held. Without firm pastoral support, a Life Chain will not fulfill its potential for saving lives and changing hearts.

Help Is Available

Please Let Me Live provides a 56-page Life Chain Manual and 20-minute video for $25, but the Manual can be downloaded free of charge, and the video can be viewed at our sister web site LifeChain.net. In addition to those instructional aids, the National Life Chain office is available to assist new Coordinators upon their request, and in like manner experienced Coordinators across the U.S. and Canada welcome opportunities to help. The National Life Chain office does not solicit contributions or seek promotion from local Life Chain committees. We ask only for the privilege of serving local committees as best we can.
