Daniel Callicoat, the 16 year-old-son of Gail and James Callicoat of Hot Springs is the 2007 Arkansas Right to Life Jane B. Thompson State Oratory Contest winner. Daniel was one of two who competed in the state contest after winning a regional contest on March 3rd. Mark Lane, of Kibler, won the regional contest in Fayetteville. Both Daniel and Mark are home-schooled students. Regional first place winners received a cash prize of $100 and the opportunity to compete in the State contest held on March 31st in Little Rock. Dr. Jean Garton, Ken Hiegel and Rhonda Pritts served as judges. As the state winner, Daniel received an expense paid trip as his First Place prize to compete in the national Jane B. Thompson Oratory Contest that will be held on Saturday, June 16th in Kansas City, Missouri during the National Right to Life Convention. He also presented his winning speech on infanticide at the Rose Dinner on April 21st and received a standing ovation. In 2003, Katie Beebe from Cabot, won both the Arkansas contest and the National contest. |
